In Language Arts, we will teach all metacognitive strategies taught this year, focusing on making connections, asking questions, and determining importance. Students will use texts to locate information, express information orally, and use content vocabulary to ask questions. In writing, students will produce a researched based paper on a given animal using a variety of digital tools, books, and periodicals. They will learn how to use a graphic organizer to record facts and to paraphrase in their own words. We will also review how to edit and revise a final copy.
This last quarter we will ensure that students have a clear understanding of the operations of addition and subtraction facts to 18. They will revisit one-step word problems with missing information. Students will find values for collections of coins as well as understanding the idea of equality in balanced equations.
In Social Studies, we will touch on how to stay safe when biking, swimming, and other warm weather activities.
The end of April we had a great time exploring the nature at Silver Lake Park. We will continue our focus on natural resources by identifying basic ways we can help conserve natural resources like water, air, and preservation of land. Our next unit of study on animals will be integrated with our non-fiction research project. This unit will study the animals' movement, food source, body covering, and babies.
Students attended the computer lab twice last month and went on two of our research based websites- World Book and PebbleGo. We will continue to learn how to navigate these websites to help us with our animal research.
