Math: We wrapped up our place value unit last week and started our next unit, fractions. We have been working with identifying fractions of a set and whole, mixed numbers, and adding/subtracting fractions with like denominators. Please make your child is still practicing their multiplication facts. It is very important as we will continue to use multiplication and division through out the school year...and in fourth grade...and in fifth grade...
Language Arts: Still working with main idea, inferring, and author's purpose as well as we continue our work with dictionary skills and using and identifying reference sources. Students need to continue to work on identifying the first and last word on a dictionary page as well as determine if a word(s) and in ABC order would be found on that page. Practicing these skills at home would be of a great benefit to all students. They should also continue to review possessive nouns and we will begin abbreviations this week.
Science: We are starting our unit on soil this week...it may get a little muddy, lol!
Social Studies: We are going to take a little break in our social studies unit right now to give more time to reading and math. We will pick up with our next unit of Famous Explorers right after spring break.
That's it for this week...As always, thank you so much for an awesome group of students to teach this year! Check back next week for more classroom happenings!
