Math: We wrapping up our place value unit this next week (well, if we don't have too many snow days...). Students are learning how to read and write six digit numbers, using USPC to solve multi step story problem, and add and subtract four digit numbers with regrouping. Please make your child is still practicing their multiplication facts. It is very important as we will continue to use multiplication and division through out the school year...and in fourth grade...and in fifth grade...
Language Arts: We continue to work with main idea, inferring, and author's purpose but we also started working with dictionary skills this week as well. Students need to be able to identify the first and last word on a dictionary page as well as determine if a word(s) and in ABC order would be found on that page. Practicing these skills at home would be of a great benefit to all students. They should also continue to review possessive nouns and we will begin abbreviations this week.
Science: We are starting our unit on soil this week...it may get a little muddy, lol!
Social Studies: This week we are creating travel brochures about Ancient Mali....be sure to ask them about the Ancient Mali storytellers, Mansa Musa, salt, gold, and where Mali is located. There will be a unit assessment coming up after the completion of the brochure. As always, a study guide will travel home.
That's it for this week...As always, thank you so much for an awesome group of students to teach this year! Check back next week for more classroom happenings!
