Here's what's happening in 202:
Reading: We have been reviewing some fiction elements in stories, and have been working to focus on cause/effect relationships as well as predictions from text clues. We've started reading Love That Dog as a class, and will explore character development by looking at Jack, our main character. Soon we'll circle back to reviewing nonfiction text, with a focus on utilizing text features and text structures to prove our answers.
Writing: Students are finalizing their research based writing pieces "Through Our Eyes:A Look at the Civil War" It has been interesting to see students research their roles and write from the various points of view. We've discovered some very interesting things about life during the Civil War period!
In addition to our research writing pieces, students continue to develop their own narrative stories- I can't get over the creativity expressed by students through their writing! We'll continue to focus on revising and editing our work, thinking about our choices as an author and how those choices impact the story that we're writing for our readers.
Science: Students will have an Electricity quiz on Wednesday, March 15th. A study guide should be in your child's Friday folder. Students will need to know the following : Static Electricity, Open Circuits, Closed Circuits, Parallel Circuits, Series Circuits, and contributions of scientists.
We'll be moving into Force and Motion and will explore this concept through a variety of labs and experiments. Students will even have an opportunity to create their own mini golf hole! We hope to share these with you at our upcoming STEAM Science and Technology night!
Hi! I'm Mrs. Jenny Stump. This is my 10th year teaching, and my 7th year in Prince William County Schools. I'm a Pittsburgh native with a love of all things black and gold! (GO PENS!)
When I'm not at school, you might see me out playing with my son, Henry. He's 2, and definitely keeps my husband and I on my toes. I also love kayaking, photography, and cooking up all sorts of deliciousness inside my kitchen.
I'm looking forward to learning about you!
