- SOLs are right around the corner. It is important for every student to get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast the morning of. To review for reading, your child should be bringing home their interactive notebook and looking it over nightly. In science and math, the students are to complete J-Labs. Information went home on Monday, April 24th about the J-Lab homework. The students are to complete 10 math questions and 20 science questions a night.
- Students will have a quick check on the physical features of Canada on Friday, March 10.
- On Tuesday, March 14, the students will have a Unit 5 test of Fiction test. It will review inferencing, context clues, main idea/detail, and character growth overtime. Students should be bringing home their blue notebook to review.
50 capitals and states test on Friday, February 25th. The students should be studying nightly the location, capital name, and state name. A few helpful links are:

Nonfiction text features/structures, main idea/supporting details and summarizing test on Friday, February 10th. Your child should bring home their reading notebook to review their notes nightly to prepare for the test.
Geography quick check on the physical features of the West Region of the United States on Thursday, February 2nd.
Geography quick check on the political features of the West Region of the United States on Thursday, January 26th.
On Tuesday, I sent home a letter for our fabulous fifth grade t-shirts. The t-shirts cost $7.00 and will need to be returned by Thursday, January 19th.
The week of January 9 - On Monday, January 9 the students will have a Quick Check on the political and physical features of the Southwest. This includes location, capital, state, and vocabulary. To study, your child will need to bring home their purple geography notebook. Additionally, the students will have a quick check on nonfiction text features on Friday, January 13. To study, your child will need to bring home their blue reading notebook, the nonfiction text features reference guide, and nonfiction text features guide book.
The week of December 12 - The students will have an end of unit poetry test on Thursday, December 15. Also on December 15, the students are to turn in their final project for our poetry unit. Letters to parents and rubrics will be going home today, December 12.
The week of November 14 - the students will have a nonfiction text features and text structures test on November 15 and a quickcheck on historical events for the Northeast and Southeast on November 18.
In an effort to help students succeed and become proficient in all state standards, I am allowing students the ability to re-take their quick checks during core extensions on Mondays and Thursdays. Any student wishing to re-take a quick check must let Mrs. Marean know two days in advance.

Patrol forms were sent home today. If your child plans to be a patrol, please have your student return the form to Mrs. Dagenhart or Mrs. Nason by Friday, September 2nd.

We will have an adventurous year looking deeper in reading and writing, as well as exploring the North American continent from coast to coast. I am excited you will be joining our group and cannot wait to meet you. :)
