5th: We are working on playing a few scales on the piano and learning about why we call a not flat sometimes and sharp other times. We have been reviewing the instrument families and how the different instruments make sound.
4th: We just played a Jamaican song with three different recorder parts. And the students learned the parts mostly on their own! We have stared using syncopated rhythms and will be expanding on that after Spring Break.
3rd: We are working on reading and performing conducting patterns. We are still learning to watch the pattern to find the beat and play the xylophone without staring AT the xylophone!
2nd: We wrote the melody to a 4 measure song and then learned to play it on the xylophone! We are also learning about accents and how to find the accents in a musical recording. And we are preparing for our performance on May 3rd at 6:00pm!
1st: We worked on playing and classifying different types of unpitched percussion instruments. We also worked on reading melodic contour and trying to draw shapes for the class to try to sing.
K: We are working on our independent singing and on songs with different parts. We are also learning to hear when a piece of music changes to the next part of the musical form. And we are getting very good at ending songs together at the same time.
