How to Get a KNR Number
Kiss-n-Ride (KnR) numbers are issued by the front office. Each family will register and receive two numbered tags. Students will be issued a matching tag for their backpacks. If you need more than two or lose your tags, there will be a $5.00 fee for replacements or extras. You will need to complete a registration form and show your ID to receive a number.
How/Where to Display a KNR Number
You will keep this number for as long as your students are at Piney Branch. Your child/children should commit the number to memory to expedite dismissal.
Your KnR number must be displayed/visible the whole time you are in the KnR line. The number tag (issued by PBES) should hang from the rear-view mirror or be visible on the driver’s side of the dashboard. If you lose or need a number, tags are available in the front office.
How KNR Works
We have an established traffic lane called “Kiss & Ride” (KnR) designated as a safe place for adults in private vehicles to load and unload students. To maximize the number of cars we can accommodate, the line doubles up along the entrance to the parking lot and uses a ‘zipper merge’ back to one lane when entering the KnR Loop. (see map for details)
Staff members are positioned along the sidewalk to provide an efficient and protected transfer of children.
We utilize the full loop for all students, Kindergarten – 5th grade. If you are in the loop and the line has stopped, your student should exit the vehicle. Do not wait to drive up to the main crosswalk area regardless of the weather. You will be asked to keep pulling forward. This helps keep the traffic flowing and prevents blocking Linton Hall Road.
If your student requires assistance, pull all the way to the front of the loop and the staff member there will assist your child out of the vehicle. Adults must remain in the vehicle while in the KnR loop.
Alternatively, you may park in the parking lot and walk your child all the way to the second crosswalk. You may have to wait at the first crosswalk to facilitate the continuous flow if KnR traffic.
Our procedures are in place to maintain an efficient and safe arrival/dismissal for students. We ask that everyone follow the procedures, general vehicle safety (no phone use during active arrival/dismissal), and directions of the staff in KnR. Your compliance with the KnR procedures below helps us keep all children, parents, and staff safe.
Morning Drop-off Procedures
· Students should exit the vehicle beginning when the first bell rings at 9:10 am.
· Students should be fully ready to exit the vehicle when you pull into the KnR loop (backpacks on, water bottles in hand, hugs/kisses/good-byes etc.)
· All students must exit on the passenger side of the vehicle (side closest to the sidewalk).
· The late bell rings at 9:20. All students should be in their rooms before it rings.
· Students arriving after the late bell MUST be accompanied to the office by an adult.
Dismissal Procedures
· Students are dismissed in waves of 12 and are escorted by our Safety Squad students.
· Children will only be permitted to enter a car on the passenger side from the sidewalk.
· Adults must remain in the vehicle. If assistance is needed, pull all the way to the front of the loop and a staff member will help
