Principal Steve Thorne is in his 11th year as an administrator at Piney Branch, and his 6th as principal. He earned his M.Ed in Educational Leadership from George Mason University and his early childhood education degree from James Madison University. Additionally, he holds an endorsement in Gifted Education through the University of Virginia. Before working as an administrator, Mr. Thorne spent 13 years as a second and third grade teacher in Centreville, VA.
Assistant Principal Monica Sobers is in her sixth year as an administrator at Piney Branch Elementary School. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership from James Madison University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Regent University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Old Dominion University. Before entering administration, Ms. Sobers spent 11 years teaching music, including two years in Alexandria City Public Schools and nine years in Prince William County Public Schools. She also served as a PWCS Summer School Principal in 2023 and 2024.
Assistant Principal Megan Howland is in her 1st year as an administrator at Piney Branch and was previously an administrator in Fauquier County for 4 years. She currently holds a Graduate certificate in Education Leadership from George Mason University, M. Ed in Literacy Education from S.U.N.Y. Cortland, and Bachelor of Elementary Education from S.U.N.Y. Cortland. Before working as an administrator, Mrs. Howland spent 18 years as an elementary teacher in grades 1, 2, 4, reading specialist K-5, 6th grade Language Arts teacher, and Literacy coach in both Prince William and Fauquier Counties.
